Fifty rods of steel, symbolizing prison bars, so people will never forget the years Mandela was imprisoned. The remarkable thing about this artwork is that it is only when you stand at a certain distance (which is marked) that you see him.
Chilling with family at @syndicatednj for their Black History Month Event! Kicking it, “F Gary Gray” Style! Great way to close out a month of events. Let’s not stop there!!! #Syndicated #BlackHistoryMonth #ThisCityofOurs #NewBrunswick #OurHistory #LocalPride
Watched “12 Years a Slave” for the second time, last night. Today these were passed around at a Black History Event. Just to touch & feel these actual slave chains, to feel the weight of them, was an experience. I’ll leave it at that. #TooManyThoughtstoType #Sacrifice #OurHistory #BlackHistory #Humbled #Thankful
"A religious man is a person who holds God and man in one thought at one time, at all times, who suffers harm done to others, whose greatest passion is compassion, whose greatest strength is love and defiance of despair."
Attended a #Kiwanis meeting, where a Rabbi started with a daily reading. It spoke such a volume to me, that I asked him could I have it. It reads:
"There are 3 starting points of contemplation about God; three trails that lead to God. The first is the way of sensing the presence of God in the world, in things; the second is the way of sensing God’s presence in the Bible; the third is the way of sensing God’s presence in sacred deeds. These 3 ways correspond in our tradition to the main aspects of religious existence: worship, learning and action. The 3 are one, and we must go all 3 ways to reach the one destination. For this is what Israel discovered: The God of nature is the God of history and the way to know God is to do God’s will."
It’s always fresh, meeting other young brothers who are committed to being the change we need, in the country, in the world. Salute. #WeNeedaMillionMore #InaugurationBall #GovernorMcauliffe #History #Richmond
